I was raised in a working middle-class family. During my college career, I worked full-time at night and earned a B.S. degree in Business Administration from Cal Poly, Pomona. I also completed computer programming classes at UCLA.
My Senior year I interned with a real estate broker and subsequently became a real estate agent and later an appraiser, loan underwriter and then regional loan underwriter for Orange and Riverside Counties. During this experience, as an appraiser and Regional Loan Underwriter I developed a unique expertise in the housing market which also included knowledge of roads, flood control and other aspects of community infrastructure.
I later was hired as National Director for claims for TICOR Mortgage Insurance Company. During this time, I developed a computer system for tracking claims. I then worked at Del Monte Corporation where I developed a budgeting system. And at Syntex Labs I developed a budget and forecasting system. These positions utilized my ability of analysis and disciplined approach to developing solutions. I ended this career as a Project manager and started my own consulting company working for many Fortune 100 companies in the San Francisco Bay area. I was instrumental in solving many system problems and interfacing between end users and the IT departments. Some of these companies were Pac Bell, Clorox Corporation and Intel.
In 2002 my wife, Jeanne, and I vacationed in a family member's condo at Kirkwood. While exploring the area we fell in love with Carson Valley and moved here in 2003. I earned a Nevada Real Estate License and currently work as an real estate sales agent.
Six years ago I ran for commissioner and lost by a little over 300 votes to the current District 1 Commissioner. I have been very disappointed in the decisions of the current District 1 Commissioner. Raising taxes, approving general obligation bonds, and approving new Receiving Area without a demonstrated need and without the consent of the voters has become a pattern with him. If we the people want a voice in our government, then we must choose a person such as myself, who feel strongly that the people should have a voice in taxing, bonding and land use decisions.
We do not need higher taxes in Douglas County. Taxes have been rising steadily since the Real Estate Market has made a turn around in 2010. What we do need is to make a distinction between wants and needs, concentrate on the needs of the County and actually use priority-based budgeting to get the spending down. In the past eight years total property taxes collected by Douglas County have risen 35%. How does this compare to how much your income has increased?
I have always been a supporter of the Second Amendment (and I am a member of the NRA), a Constitutional Conservative, an enemy of excess taxation, and an ardent believer in fiscal responsibility.
